3rd Cerulean Warbler Summit & 2nd Golden-winged Warbler Summit
October 21 – 25 2008, Bogotá D.C and San Vicente de Chucurí, Colombia
Summit
You are invited to attend this summit devoted to conservation planning for migratory and resident birds of the Northern Andes. During this workshop we will define a conservation strategy for these species of high management concern on the non-breeding grounds through management, research, education and partnerships.
Summit Objectives
- Increase awareness of conservation status of the Cerulean and Golden-winged Warblers throughout their ranges.
- Build partnerships between the various industries, farmers, landowners, and conservationists that benefit Ceruleans, Golden-wings and other birds on the breeding and non breeding areas in the context of economically productive and socially sustainable landscapes.
- Promote a conservation model of international cooperation, mutual partnership, and mitigation in which Cerulean Warbler serves as a symbolic linkage between the coal industry on its breeding grounds and the coffee industry on its wintering grounds.
- In the context of regional strategic all-bird conservation, explore management opportunities that benefit Cerulean and Golden-winged Warbler and will help reverse their population declines.
- Identify outreach and education opportunities to communicate awareness of non-breeding season conservation in Central and South America and promote linkages between countries in the western hemisphere.
- Develop a conservation plan for Golden-winged Warbler during the non-breeding season that includes research, management and conservation strategies, educational outreach, regional coordination, and monitoring.
- Discuss and approve a five-year conservation plan for Cerulean Warbler during the non-breeding season that includes research, management and conservation strategies, educational outreach, regional coordination, and monitoring.
- Develop a coordination plan for information-sharing and conservation action follow-through.
Who Should Attend?
The Summits are being planned for a total of 150 participants including decision makers and senior experts from the following groups: nongovernmental organizations, governmental agencies, students, researchers and academic institutions, coal, forestry, coffee and cacao industries, sustainable development entities and biodiversity conservation institutions from across the distribution range of both species. Attendants should have experience in one or more of these issues: migratory birds, conservation biology, landscape ecology, rural landscape conservation, environmental education, environmental certification and green markets in order to take an active part in the discussions.
Posters session
A limited number of posters will be accepted for presentation during the meeting. Posters that address any aspect of the meeting themes will be considered. See
